July 8, 2001: Travel Page 2

I only stayed with everyone for a couple of days because I had a short amount of time before I needed to be in Florida for the upcoming space shuttle launch. On this afternoon, evening, and night, I drove from Sharpsburg, Maryland down to Titusville, Florida.

I started out from the cabin in Sharpsburg in the late morning, first stopping in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, for gas and to run a quick errand.

From there, I headed back towards I-95 and basically took that south all day. The weather was, again, surprisingly comfortable...at least until I got to Georgia. As the sun set, the temperature and humidity rose. Really, the temperature and humidity were rising because I was getting farther and farther south. I got to northern Florida and discovered that it was under construction. Past that, I got to Jacksonville around 10:30 pm and decided to press on. I got to Titusville, which is basically west of the space shuttle launch complex, at around 1 am. When I checked into a hotel there, the humidity was 97%.

Just off the Richmond bypass (I-295) Southern North Carolina somewhere south of Savannah
