A readable book will compress the time it takes to travel long distances. By the time I finished a digression on baseball, October, 1964 by David Halberstam, the plane I was inside was arriving at Laguardia. Well, by the time I got close to finishing the book, anyway.

Flying east, you always lose the day; I started out early, so there was still a bit of the evening. Mr. O performed his hitting and fielding duties for his softball team (which suffered only its second loss in nine outings) and we got a bite to eat.
